What differentiates Datadog from other similar products?
Datadog is your go to instrument for all monitoring needs. They started with a small set of features (and did them really well), but they regularly keep expanding their product offering, which makes Datadog a compelling choice as a single platform for ALL kinds of monitoring (custom metrics, integrations, logging, APM).
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Datadog's strongest suit is versatility and customizability, which is extremely important when it comes to observing a software system. You never know in advance the exact metrics you want to track, and your observability needs will change over time. Datadog makes the process of continuously configuring monitors and alerts a breeze!
What do you dislike most about this product?
As a universal product with many features, it can be hard to navigate for a newcomer. The number of existing monitors and dashboards created by your coworkers can be overwhelming.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Honestly Datadog is a no-brainer choice for a software company. You might use other tools for special needs, but Datadog is always in the mix.
