Individualization of rewards and recognition demonstrates that you know and respect the recipient. It also makes the reward more meaningful and memorable to the employee. In order to provide a meaningful reward, ask employees for their likes, dislikes, and general preferences. The more you tie rewards to the individual, the more it will:
- Motivate them (it is something that they actually want)
- Positively affect their engagement (it has a personal touch that shows how much you appreciate their contribution).
Managers can use this template to gain an understanding of their employees’ favorite food, favorite restaurant, preference when it comes to public versus private praise, and other important characteristics of what employees want in a reward.
