Free & widely known, but with tons of added costs

What differentiates WooCommerce from other similar products?

WooCommerce is widely known and probably the most popular e-commerce plugin available on WordPress. It's free to use right out of the gate while many others charge a license fee just to even download the plugin. The initial price tag is what draws most in, as well as the simple setup, etc. While it may be best for those with limited products, digital downloads, and are using something like PayPal to process payments, it's great. However, when it comes to customization, conditions for shopping, etc, wanting to use your own payment processor, etc, the costs really start to add up.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

That is incredibly easy to set up, especially for those who may be arent as tech-savvy. I've set up WooCommerce for so many business owners who couldn't tell you the first thing about the backend of their website, however, they never had any issues processing orders via WooCommerce. Managing it once it has been set up is fairly straightforward and easy to navigate. The tabs and menu options are pretty self-explanatory and very intuitive.

What do you dislike most about this product?

I understand why WooCommerce is such a stripped-down version of what it could be and has the potential for. Not every single business is the same, nor do they have the need for the same features. In that sense, it is great that the WooCommerce plugin is not some behemoth. However, every single added option has an additional license cost and an individual plugin. There is no way to bundle a few options for any type of discount, and there is no lifetime option either, all licenses are valid for 1 year only.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I would say think about what you envision your business to look like a few years down the line. Really think about the need to scale, if and when your business starts to flourish. While it may not be easy to think about all the features you will one day need, even thinking about a few of them can help to estimate what the long-term cost of something like WooCommerce would be. Does your preferred payment platform integrate with WooCommerce? Do they require their own setup fees, licenses, and plugins? These questions may seem irrelevant but I have seen many businesses drop close to $1000 just trying to get the e-commerce section set up.
