SolarWinds SAM Keeps Everything Running Smoothly
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor from other similar products?
Many competitors focus on either hardware or software, but SAM nails both in a way that gives you an integrated view
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I’m responsible for monitoring several servers, and being able to create a personalized dashboard where I can see performance data across all apps and servers in one glance
What do you dislike most about this product?
While it’s generally pretty effective, the alerts can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming, especially when it starts pushing notifications for minor issues that don’t require immediate attention.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
The alert configuration needs to be done thoughtfully to avoid bombarding your team with notifications for things that aren’t urgent.
Pros

Strong for hybrid monitoring.

What differentiates SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor from other similar products?
I like how everything is built on the Orion platform. Instead of managing multiple disconnected tools i get a more unified view of servers, applications and infrastructure in one place. It’s not overly fancy but it’s reliable and easy to work with.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I can get from zero to meaningful insights. The pre built templates aren’t just basic they cover real world workloads like SQL Server, IIS, Apache etc in a way that actually reflects how these systems behave in production.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The interface is decent but not very modern It works but when handling larger environments, it can feel slightly clunky and takes more clicks than expected to find what I need.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
It works really well in environments that are a mix of on prem and some cloud and it gives you reliable visibility without being overly complicated. I’d suggest starting with the built in templates and spending some time tuning alerts early it makes a big difference later.
Pros
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing
- Effective Service
- Caring
Cons
- Slower Product Innovation

Clear server and app visibility.
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor from other similar products?
It gives clear performance metrics and dependency insights which make it easier to identify whether the issue is with the server, the application or a backend service like a database. This saves a lot of time during high pressure incidents.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
When an issue comes in , I can immediately see whether the problem is with the server resources, the application service or a backend dependency like a databse. That visibility saves a lot of time diring incidents and reduces guess work. I also like that everything is shown in one place so i don't have to jump between multiple tools to understand what's going on.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The downside is resource usage and licensing cost. As i add more nodes and applications the system can become resource intensive and licensing can get expensive especially for growing organizations.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
It is great for getting clear visibility and fixing issues faster, not just receiving alerts. It works best when you use the built in templates and properly tune alerts. Setup and maintenance take some effort but once configured it really simplify daily support work.
Pros
- Continually Improving Product
- Unique Features
- Efficient Service
- Saves Time
Cons
- Leverages Incumbent Status
