precision planning at its best.

What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?
the discrepancy is in how granular details your schedule can carry. Its the best because it enables you to really track your time and effort very accurately. compared to anything more casual._ project is much better at letting you know the health and progress of your project. it's for people who need to be exact, and cannot deal with any uncertainty in their plans. it is the foundation to delivering projects successfully anywhere, anytime.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I especially love how i can put tasks into groups and filter them so i’m only looking at a specific portion of the project. the visual signal of everything we have a little behind and items over budget are really effective to keep an eye on something which might turn out to be a problem. the software itself is extremely flexible in that it can be set up to do a lot of different things and record data in many ways. i also enjoy that it integrates into the rest of the microsoft ecosystem and i can easily send my plans/reports to others as well.
What do you dislike most about this product?
learning curve in the beginning is quite high and it might be a pain to get everything working exactly as you want to. the desktop application itself is pretty resource intensive and can occasionally bog down your machine if you have a massive project file open.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
this is a great tool for anyone who wants to have complete control over their project. it gives the depth and accuracy you need for complex work, while helping to keep you on budget and on time. i would recommend it to any project manager who wants to be more organized and efficient.
Pros

reliability you can count on.

What differentiates Microsoft Project from other similar products?
the key difference, however, is that microsoft project is a dedicated scheduling tool and not just a collaboration app. it's because it makes sense for scheduling project logic better than anything else out there. and while other tools are good for talking about work, project’s great for actually planning and tracking. compared to the spreadsheet-based tracking, it is far more “self-controlled” – I don’t have to think when dates change or tasks move around.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
i love love love that "critical path" highlighting, showing me the most important tasks for getting to our deadline. The resource usage view is a favorite, not only because of its richness as I see the way I need to balance my team’s workload. the tool is very stable and has a ton of intelligence built in that will help you catch logic errors before they become issues. it really feels like a reliable partner to me in my project management efforts.
What do you dislike most about this product?
it certainly has a “corporate” feel which could certainly undermine it among more creativelt/ or quickly moving startup teams. the licencing management sometimes can be a bit of a nightmare when you have large number of different users/roles with their unique access requirements to project data.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
if you are looking for an professional, data-based project management approach, you should give it a try. is the world's most robust, flexible and reliable scheduling engine on earth. i recommend it to any project professional that wants an uncluttered, accurate view of the work.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I really like the level of control it gives over planning. I can set dependencies, adjust schedules, and see how every change affects the plan.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Sometimes it feels overly complex for simple projects. You end up doing a lot of setup for things that could be easier.

Try it first on a real but manageable project. It’s the best way to learn how the schedules, resources, and dependencies actually work.
