Both absent and extraneous policies lead to undesired employee behavior, unnecessary administration, and legal vulnerability. Determining which policies an organization really needs and updating them can seem like an overwhelming task; therefore, HR departments tend to keep the same legacy policies for many years. As a result, most organizations have unnecessary and out-of-date policies. Use this storyboard to help you determine which policies you require in your organization, and which can be converted to guidelines.

Specifically, this storyboard will:

  • Make the case for the importance of establishing which priorities you need.
  • Explain why having too many policies can be as detrimental as not having enough.
  • Help you determine which policies you require through the HR Policy Needs and Priority Assessment Tool. This tool plots your policies on a chart according to impact and likelihood of incident, while providing a risk score, which indicates policy importance.
  • Walk you through the process of determining if any policies are missing.
  • Explain the benefits of converting low-risk policies to guidelines.

Use this storyboard to guide your HR policy update project at your organization.
