What differentiates USU Software Asset Management from other similar products?
In the last year, we've saved more than $4 million in genuine cost savings/cost avoidance. We use the tool on a daily basis to fulfil software requests from inventory and determine whether we need to purchase more licences, manage compliance, run harvesting campaigns, and perform large annual renewals/true ups, among other things. We've only recently begun using the information to help our Risk and Security teams with IT visibility, and we used the data in LiMA to support our ISO and SoCs compliance reporting, which we were able to do in days rather than weeks.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
SU offers a fantastic toolkit. I like that it includes numerous reports and views to acquire insights into the data and nothing is a "black box". You can deduce why a product computed as it did. It's also incredibly adaptable, allowing for many data inputs, sophisticated or bespoke licencing, and analysis on more efficient licencing or footprint adjustments.
What do you dislike most about this product?
It is tough to use if the team is inexperienced. Given the nature of licencing, its flexibility is an asset, but it is probably not the ideal solution for people who merely want a quick study on uncomplicated licencing.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
By far the most potent instrument on the market. It provides the most flexibility in terms of developing bespoke recognition and reconciliation engines. The data is simple to extend to add new elements, and there are a plethora of out-of-the-box connectors so you don't have to rely on introducing new discovery sources unless your present sources are insufficient. Yet, because it is the most powerful technology on the market, some companies may find it too much too fast if they are just getting started.
