Slack is great...until we got Microsoft Teams
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates Slack from other similar products?
Please don't misunderstand me. Slack is a great product and it definitely had a place for us. It was a fantastic collaboration tool when we needed it. Then we got Microsoft Teams and Slack pretty much got swept to the side. We still use it for historical records, but we've moved on to another platform. I don't feel like we've missed anything since moving from Slack. Teams is great too, and has some additional features that Slack didn't have, like the ability to do large group calls and share video. However, if you're not a Microsoft shop, or if you're looking for a great collaboration tool at an amazing price, you can't go wrong with Slack.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I love how easy it is to quickly get into Slack and start using it. It is super simple. Everyone on my team caught on really quick, which doesn't always happen when you have large teams.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The only thing I didn't like about Slack was the inability to call the whole channel and have a discussion. The larger our group got, we had to meet on another platform due to size limitations. This may have been due to our licensing, but we couldn't have more than 15 on a call. Most times we didn't need that feature, so it wasn't that big of a deal, but when you use Slack for everything, and it does almost whatever you want, it's a little annoying.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Look at your organization and determine your needs. If you already have a platform for collaboration, see if it's meeting your business needs. There's a reason Slack is so widely used. It is awesome. I still love using it.
