What differentiates Kobiton from other similar products?
What differentiated Kobiton for us was the ability to access a wide variety of real devices without paying an arm and and a leg for dedicated devices. Because there's a big, shared pool of devices available to all clients, we're able to manually check our app against a wide assortment of device configurations when the need arises.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I think the simplicity of Kobiton is my favorite aspect. Everything from adding a new user to accessing a device is easy to do. I can give almost anyone in our company a login, and they're ready to start using the tool in no time.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Currently the thing that irks me most often is how slow some of the devices can be. Whether it's the device itself or something in the remote connection, I often find myself waiting too long between actions, just so the device can catch up with me.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Where Kobiton shines is in its easy access for your whole team to perform manual, one-off tests on a broad swath of real devices. If you're considering this tool for automated testing (as we initially were), I recommend two things. First, before leveraging their scriptless solution, ensure your app is simple enough for it to handle. It's a slick feature to be sure, but it's not robust enough to record much more than simple navigation. Second, for anyone planning to run automated tests out of Katalon, I recommend connecting at least one dedicated device to your lab, as public devices are not consistently available for automated tests to hit.
