What differentiates AWS Web Application Firewall from other similar products?
AWS WAF stands out because of its native integration with other AWS services, scalability to handle large volumes of traffic, and flexibility in creating custom rules. Its managed rule sets and automation capabilities make it easier to adapt to evolving threats compared to many standalone solutions.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
The best aspect is its seamless integration with AWS CloudFront, ALB, and API Gateway, which makes deployment simple and efficient. I also appreciate the managed rules that provide quick protection without requiring deep security expertise.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The interface and rule-building process can feel complex for new users, and troubleshooting issues is not always straightforward. Pricing can also become a challenge at scale if rules are not optimized carefully.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Ensure you define clear ownership between IT and business teams for managing WAF rules and monitoring alerts. Start with AWS Managed Rules to get baseline protection quickly, and then gradually customize rules to meet your specific application needs. Also, monitor costs closely as usage grows to avoid unexpected billing.
