What differentiates Microsoft Sharepoint from other similar products?
Our internal social network for staff members is hosted on Microsoft Sharepoint. It's a fantastic content management system and document repository that can consolidate a lot of data from many divisions.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
All departments in the company are making use of this. It's a boon for cross-departmental cooperation and teamwork. Moreover, it facilitates the dissemination of data to both internal and external parties. When used for file storage, it can replace local storage and reduce the burden on onsite storage administrators.
What do you dislike most about this product?
When you aren't familiar with document security or haven't set it up properly, it might be difficult to determine what level of access to grant to each individual user.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Sharepoint is ideally suited to serve as an intranet site for a business since it allows users to publish content to distinct sites, each with its own set of permissions and security settings. Public areas accessible to all employees are another option.
Pros
- Enables Productivity
- Efficient Service
- Includes Product Enhancements
- Security Protects

Sharepoint is our workflow add-on

What differentiates Microsoft Sharepoint from other similar products?
We use MS SharePoint in different departments and in some cases in the whole organization. We use Nintex workflow in conjunction with MS SharePoint to facilitate processes and file sharing. We also developed several forms and web pages that we use to work on single projects. In the beginning, when we started using SharePoint about two years ago, people didn't know they were using a SharePoint site. Today, we receive daily requests for new sites to be built. Sites are easily built and delivered to users, who can then modify the site to suit their business needs.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Reports and views are simple to use and create, allowing users to create their own reports as needed. We can send alerts when action is required, send documents to approval processes and file documents that conform to government regulations. This is just a small part of a big problem when it comes to workflow. We are fascinated by the ease with which InfoPath allows the creation of a standardized form. This allows us to collect and store necessary information that is often not accompanied by a document.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Sometimes it is a problem and there are many search settings that can be modified and changed, but this creates confusion and sometimes the search actually affects the speed of the sites, this is due to the way it is configured. Making the search settings simpler would be extraordinary. We currently use another MS program called InfoPath form for all our forms. The fate of InfoPath forms has been uncertain at times. Currently, there are several forms programs that run on SharePoint, however, it would be more beneficial if it were a part of the SharePoint software package.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Great for sharing and monitoring documents, forms are nice, but what's wrong with workflow? The unification with other MS products is simple and easy to use. If I wanted to recommend something, it would be nice if the calendar integration with Outlook was more effective. When you use Outlook to organize your calendars and then integrate it, you can only access the Outlook options. For example, if you create a calendar event in Outlook, you are limited to the fields that Outlook provides, however, if you create the calendar event in SharePoint, you can create new fields that are not present in Outlook.
Pros
- Helps Innovate
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing
