What is Data Replication Software?
Data Replication is a particular data protection strategy involving the near real-time continuous writing of primary data to multiple locations. This helps distinguish it from a more common strategy, Data Backup, which is concerned with a number of point in time copies of data which are then stored in one or several locations. Data Replication can be performed against both structured and unstructured data and in order to be effective requires environmentally specific knowledge of both the source and target. As such, Replication solutions have tight (and frequently) complex integration requirements, performance considerations and significant architectural impacts for the workloads they are protecting.
