What is it?
- Blurred boundaries between work and home, heightened exposure to world crises, increasing concerns about the rise of AI, economic uncertainty, and a charged political landscape are just a few of the issues employees are grappling with on a day-to-day basis. As we face a significant degree of uncertainty in, and out, of the workplace, checking emotions at the door has become impossible.
- Emotions are a critical component of employee mental health and wellbeing, yet organizations are largely unaware of how to address and navigate emotions in the workplace. Without directly tackling emotions, organizational wellbeing initiatives will fall flat.
Why does it matter?
- Emotions at work are inevitable, and organizations have an emotional culture, whether they realize it or not. Rather than avoiding emotions altogether, organizations need to be proactive about how emotions and work can coexist and ultimately thrive.
- A healthy emotional culture where employees acknowledge, cope, and express emotions appropriately based on organizational norms and values is critical for individual and organizational success.
