Making Sense of Generations in the Workplace
We’ve all heard the many stereotypes associated with each generational group, whether it’s the rigid and technologically dull “boomers” to the lazy and avocado-toast-loving millennials. Whether these stereotypes are rooted doesn’t seem to matter much anymore; they are everywhere in society and help people explain the behaviors of their younger or older counterparts. However, the entire concept of generational differences is rooted in shaky science, and its associated labels can bring about more harm than good. This session will explore:
- Truths and myths about generations.
- What contributes to the rapid emergence of generational differences as a social and workplace phenomenon.
- Risks associated with improper application of generational differences and alternative approaches.
