Job descriptions are internal documents while job postings are meant for external use with the intent of attracting job applicants. Due to the different purposes and audiences, the job description will contain more detail than is necessary for the posting, but certain sections of the job descriptions should be pulled from to craft the posting.

Use this guide to gain advice on using the job description to create an effective job posting. This advice assumes that McLean & Company’s Job Description Template was used to craft the job description, but the advice is still applicable if a different job description format is applied.
